Itinerary

Day 1 London – Salisbury – Stonehenge – Bath – Bristol

View Salisbury Cathedral, built in the Early English Gothic style, where an original copy of the Magna Carta is held. Visit Stonehenge, the pagan monoliths steeped in mystery, and one of the most famous sites in the world. Admire the graceful Regency terraces at Bath. Visit the Roman baths, from which the city derives its name. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Pub Reception with a traditional pub meal. It’s the ideal opportunity to get to know your fellow and Travel Director.

Day 2 Bristol – Chester – Lake District

Visit the Roman Walls at Chester. See the Tudor architecture and the galleried shops known as the ‘Rows’. Enjoy spectacular scenery as you head north to the Lake District.

Day 3 Lake District – Grasmere – Gretna Green – Edinburgh (2 Nights)

Admire the views across the Lake District. These scenes provided William Wordsworth with the inspiration to write the poem ‘Daffodils’. You will visit the town of Grasmere to see St. Oswald’s church where the poet is buried. Visit Gretna Green across the border, a town popular with eloping couples. Here the marriage ceremony was traditionally performed across a blacksmith’s anvil. Cross the Scottish lowlands to the historic capital, Edinburgh, your home for the next two nights.

Day 4 Edinburgh Sightseeing And Free Time

Discover the elegance of the city with your expert Local Guide. See the Royal Mile in the Old Town. View Holyrood House and Arthur’s Seat. Your guided visit to Edinburgh Castle is informative and engaging. Spend the afternoon exploring this fascinating city. In the evening, you might like to sample some traditional Scottish cuisine. Day 5 Edinburgh – Jedburgh – York

Pause to view the ruins of Jedburgh Abbey in the Scottish borders. Traverse the dramatic landscape of Northumberland National Park on your journey to the Roman city of York. See York Minster and the famous Shambles. Tonight, enjoy a memorable Be My Guest farewell dinner experience.

Day 6 York – Coventry – Stratford – London

In Coventry, hear the fable of Lady Godiva, who reputedly rode naked on a horse through the city, and see the two contrasting cathedrals. 2012 is the year that Coventry Cathedral will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee – a landmark occasion recognising 50 years of service to Coventry’s community. Visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Visitors Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon where the great man spent his early years, and see Anne Hathaway’s cottage.
